Of love and war - Lynsey Addario

Book rating: *****/*****

This photobook is amazing, what can I say, Addario has such powerful work which impacts the reader with awe. Addario has a style where she can show the distress and agony within theses third world countries but in a way that does not make the reader look away in despair.

I love the way that Addario has captured death within her images as this brings a true outtake to the viewer of what really happens in these third world countries. My opinion upon her work is that it is enlightening, it brings a true representation to what is really happening in this not so angelic world we live on. Sub-Saharan Africa is one of my favorite series within this book as it has some impactful imagery within it; The greatest page to me within this series is page 159, This photograph is so appealing, the colours, the leading lineas and the positioning of the entire landscape.

Of love and war is layed out in a satisfying way, the opening page consists of Addario’s handwritten note about her work, leading into five initial images to develop the viewer's interest for the beauty that lies within. I would like to see a little more text within this about her experiences as then we could connect with these powerful images in a greater scale.

This book is a definite thing to have in your next purchase as it is beautiful and eye opening, I would advise anyone with a love of photography to snap this up as soon as possible.
